Hello, Scouts!
For every outing that we go on, we require the patrol leaders to make two charts: a meal plan chart, and a duty chart. Obviously, the meal plan chart shows you what you will be eating. An example from the Super Octagonal Green Trees of Switzerland Patrol is below:
| Meal plan for the SOGTS patrol | |||
|---|---|---|---|
| Friday | Saturday | Sunday | |
| Breakfast | N/A | Cheese | Cheese |
| Lunch | N/A | Cheese | N/A |
| Dinner | Cheese | Cheese | N/A |
This is a well laid out chart, but having swiss cheese every day for every meal would be pretty boring (and, not to mention, unhealthy). But, the SOGTS patrol did plan to buy cheese for every meal, so they won’t run out of food. Good job Green Trees! Good job.
Now for duty charts. A duty chart shows you who is doing what kitchen job, and when. The SOGTS patrol has kindly made an example one for you:
| Duty Chart for the SOGTS patrol | |||
|---|---|---|---|
| Friday | Saturday | Sunday | |
| Breakfast Cook: | N/A | John | Hans |
| Breakfast Cleanup: | N/A | Hans | John |
| Lunch Cook: | N/A | Franz | N/A |
| Lunch Cleanup: | N/A | Herbz | N/A |
| Dinner Cook: | Heidl | Roone | N/A |
| Dinner Cleanup: | Roone | Heidl | N/A |
This chart was well done! Everybody in the patrol has a job to do. But, in most cases, you want an assistant for each job as well. So, at the next campout, you can use these charts as a reference for your planning. Happy eating!

Colin Summers
